Something Else offers customized training courses to individuals and organizations. Our training aims to sharpen the communications skills that are crucial to internal and external success. Courses range from a half-day to three days, with the short courses suitable for virtual participation. Some of our course topics are:
Defining and articulating your message/mission
Your unique product, service or mission should be expressed in clear, concise language that truly reflects its purpose and value to society. We can help you share your story by working with you to craft a meaningful mission statement and a compelling message that tells the world who you are, what you’re doing and why we should care.
Communicating in a controversial issue space
Food and agriculture are hot-button social and political issues. Even noble and altruistic efforts can be tarred with a negative brush. Additionally, some innovations threaten the interests of powerful stakeholders. Our team has spent considerable time in the GMO trenches. We know how to monitor and address any controversy that may be associated with your work.
Shaping a narrative
You can take steps to control the message that gets out about your product, research or service. This process is done proactively and starts by identifying and crafting the narrative that best expresses your goals and intent. We can assist you and your team with that process.
Communicating effectively with the media
Good media relations can provide you and your work with a tremendous boost. The key is knowing how and when to engage. Our training will prepare you for print and digital interviews so you stay on message while still allowing your humanity and personality to shine through.
Science advocacy
We believe that science professionals can play a key role in educating the public, media and policy makers about the value of science in our society. Our training covers the various ways that you can share your passion and enlighten others.
Specialized courses
Let us know what you’re interested in learning, and/or the communications skills you’d like to improve, and we’ll develop a course that meets your needs.
